Day 3 - The Glad Hummer

I need to use a quote from Shelly, which she offered to dedman yesterday:
"Sometimes God sends us little gifts like this, and it creates such joy you just HAVE to share it!!"
**********************************************************************************
As a practice session for camera settings, I decided to continue on with my study in the life of a Gladiola stalk.
(LOL!! Kre8ive: now I can't make that reference without thinking about and envisioning your comment from yesterday:
"this gorgeous flower stalking a bunny that had tried to eat it at some point!" !!!).
This session was 21 hours after the shot from yesterday, and was being dedicated to bilroy!
I liked the idea of causing an 'other than black' BG. I was about to call it quits (it was a little hot out there!),
when this wonderful hummingbird arrived to show me how much they like Gladiolas!! (Thank you, Mom! I love you!)

BTW: Thanks, bilroy! I included two more shots for you in my Contender gallery.

And Thank you all very much for the wonderful and generous comments and encouragement!! This 'community' is just really outstanding!!

Christmas Day

"O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!"

My son's Wedding is quickly approaching--3:30 Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27!
I won't be posting again until...maybe Sunday night! Hopefully I'll be able to share a wedding photo then!
Thank you for your wonderful support, and wedding well-wishes!!
Blessings to all!!

The Reflection Challenge...01/05/09
The Challenge: Show us your interpretation of the word, "Reflection."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), Bill Pador, Karina Boese, Johnloguk, Creative Deviance, The Curious Camel, MyKey, Karina Boese, Trevlan, MSpencer, and myself.
The Result: "Fanny", reflecting fun memories of this last year!
This morning, I noticed the sun shining right on Fanny and her festive hat! Well...that took care of this weekly challenge!
I was planning on choosing my submission for this challenge from my files; I have quite a few that would have fit for 'reflection' !
Since Fanny wanted her picture taken today, I have included two other images in my Contender gallery.

Half Dome Reflection In Mirror Lake (Johnloguk: finally! Another image from Yosemite!)

 Our 'blended family!
L to R: Best Man: Evan (Clarke), my husband, Greg Herring, Steven (Herring), yours truly, Travis, Kimberli, Carli (Herring- Peck), Wedding Officiant: Kamryn (Clarke), Samantha (Herring-Gentry).
This was the first occasion in 8 years where Greg and I experienced the blessing of having all six of our kids together!!
Truly Awesome!! 'Twas definitely a silver lining for a 'Christmas' wedding!

to be continued........
I'm still feeling a touch tired!! Good night!

P.S. For many of the shots on my camera card, of this entire day, my camera was in the hands of someone else! Our very own 'MyKey' took this one, and others during this particular time!
Good job, girl!
LadyKatesPhotography > November 23

This update photo of 'Jane Doe' was taken late this afternoon. She made it through her ordeal no more worse-for-the-wear, other than she was cold and began shivering.

There is a photo of how we used the rope to get her out of the situation here.

That was certainly fun reading all the comments on the "Venison Soup" image! Our neighbor, Chuck, and I thought it probably would be, after I told him that I was definitely going to post that as my DP!! Thank you all for the interest, giggles, and concern!

The day after my return from the Yosemite trip, my husband, myself and the neighbors noticed a doe in a gulley on our property, standing motionless....all day. Something was certainly wrong with her, but nothing obvious. I took her some dinner (!) and breakfast the next morning. She had managed to move about 50 yds. up our driveway, then proceeded to just stand there all day.
She was even letting me hand feed her. Last Tuesday night, she followed our neighbor into their fenced in yard area, and as been there ever since.
Something is wrong with one of her eyes.(This is her good eye-in the above photo) We think she's blind in that eye, and maybe a head injury caused that and the possibility of some brain damage; she doesn't maneuver very well.
Seriously, she DID end up in that water trough all of her own doing! It was sad, yet funny! Chuck and I so wished we had gotten that on video!
We've called several 'animal' agencies, but no-one wants to do anything. They say just let her be; you know....survival of the fittest....let nature take its course.
This afternoon, the neighbors and I decided to carry on with our 'deerly rehabilitation', and see if she seems to improve. She was letting me hand feed her apples again tonight; she does have an appetite and is drinking from (instead of lounging in!!!) the trough.
We know she would not last long if we let her out of the fenced area; quite probably be the bucks that would end up killing her; she wouldn't be able to get away from them.

If anyone has any helpful advice, we would greatly appreciate it!

My 'Time for photos' today was spent creating a gallery of my wildflower trek with Roxy, from yesterday.

These are the flowers we were sitting in!

The truth is: I HAVE REALLY MISSED THIS COMMUNITY!
I've missed my interactions with the members, have missed seeing what's going on around the world--through the eyes & lenses of incredible photographers--and I've missed this as a way of journaling.
My plan is to play a bit of catch up, as far as the journaling, for my own records; probably not on a daily basis. I have a couple of extra projects which I'm working on that need some focus. The catch up will be some highlights of 'life as I know it' since August 25----which is the last of when I was being kind of regular with postings.

I took this image November 4 during a wonderful time away with my friend Myki (MyKey was a member here for a while). Our adventure took us to Carmel (CA).

This is SOOC. I was practicing how to save photos on my new MAC. I'm going to leave you wondering until I post next!?

Hopefully tomorrow, I can look through some Daily pages to catch up on many of you!

I did put an explanation on my next DP (with the Halloween Rooster!)
