My sister stayed with us last night, trying to get out of the heat of Shell Beach (California).
We bribed her saying that if she came for a visit, we would turn the air-conditioner on,
seeing as she has no AC--there's no need for it at the coast--until these last several days!

This morning she and I took our coffee outside and played with her dog, Toby, and the remote control 4wheeler!!
It's funny, funny entertainment! Toby chases it; it chases her and she barks a lot! (We think she loves it!?)

At @ 3:00, we heard that it was cooling down at the coast and seeing as it was @110 in our neck of the woods, we spent the rest of the day in Shell Beach relishing the 85 degrees.

Was a fun day, Gaysie Mae!!

The SOOC Still Life Challenge...01/19/09
The Challenge: Show us your best Straight Out Of the Camera (SOOC) Still Life
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Bill Pador, Karina, Creative Deviance, Johnloguk, MSpencer, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, MyKey, and myself.
The Result: "SOOC Still Life"!

Recently I was visiting my daughter and her fiancee, Mike.
Mike was going to the grocery store and while giggling, he suggested that I go with him and "bring your camera! Last time I was there I saw a display which you might want to photograph!"
OMG! I immediately told him of the challenge for this week!! LMAO, he went to finish his shopping, while I was changing the camera settings inbetween several shots. Mike had already checked out, put the bags in the car and couldn't figure out why it was taking me so long.
Well........the first Asst. Manager (who had stopped by to ask what I was doing) apparently gathered up and came back with the Manager, a female Asst. Manager AND the Security Guard!!
Mike could barely contain himself!! He was envisioning walking in the door at home, and Kamryn asking, "Hi Honey....huummm....where's my Mom?" "Oh, she got arrested! For taking pictures of a nude, headless chicken!"
(and BTW: it was a Hispanic grocery store.....and we were the only caucasians in there!)
The facts are that it didn't quite come to that, but almost!! At first I told Mike that I wasn't sure I had the nerve (or whatever!) to use this as my submission for this challenge; as we were laughing on the way home, we decided that I now HAD to use this one because of the story!

Re: photo info, this was in a glass-front refigeration case. A couple of days later, I also used this as a practice session for using some of the in-camera editing features, which I had never done before.

P.S. Kamryn was soooo glad she didn't have to come bail me out!!

I have an alternative image in my daily photo gallery

Graciousness in Bloom

Quite a few more of my Iris have started showing their pretty faces! Each variety is so beautiful and unique!
I was starting to prepare dinner and gazed out the kitchen window to the lovely sight of the setting sun shining on the new blossoms. Well, so much for dinner! (We ate a little later this evening!!) I was using this as a practice session for different camera settings.
I have this same shot, with the background showing.

'The Happy Couple' flew into San Francisco Sunday night, Dec. 21. My daughter, Kamryn, and my 'adopted' neice, Stacy, picked them up at the airport, and brought them back to the 'new home' of Kamryn and her fiancee, in San Jose (their escrow closed last week!). Another 'adopted' neice, Melanie, was also there for a slumber party visit on her way home for the Holidays!
I drove to San Jose (I knew the way!), and brought 'the wedding couple' back to our area last night. The next four days will be VERY busy with final wedding plans (27th is the big day!), AND Christmas!!
It was awesome to walk into Kamryn and Mike's house and see the improvements they've already made as they're creating their home! We enjoyed a wonderfully laid-back visit!

L to R: Kimberli, Travis, yours truly
L to R, top row: Stacy, Kamryn, Melani -- AKA: the three youngest members of The Mud Mama Tribe!!
Travis has already suggested that Miss Kimberli is our newest member! However, she must remain a 'wannabe' until the time of her initiation ceremony! Kimberli will be meeting the other members of our Tribe tonight, at the Bridal Shower/Bachelorette party!! WooHoo!!

For several days I will be using my 'photo time' to share more from the Ladies Camping Trip!

This is our favorite swimming hole, in the river which runs alongside the campground! And we will be the first ones to assure y'all that our swimmin' water here is VERY cold !! This shot was taken just after all three of us dove in together; we're not swimmin' yet!!
We're just trying to catch our breath! (Stacy, Kamryn, myself---thanks to Sherry for taking this shot!)

We spend much of our time relaxing and playing right here!
There are two more photos of the river--and playtime--in my Contender gallery.

BTW: Apparently there was much browsing going on last night within some of my galleries!? I certainy appreciate the interest, and the voting which gave quite a few of my images a 'thumbs Up'! I also offer my gratitude to the votes and comments which I received as a result thereof!!

My participation in the 'community' is very enjoyable and educational--on many levels!
Thank you for the interraction!

A great shop on Pier 39 caught my attention because they 'glitz' up their window displays, which 'resplendently' capture the afternoon sunlight.

Weekly Challenge: The Lexicon challenge (What is a lexicon? Technically, lexicon is a dictionary.)

It was while we were renting our car at the airport when I heard the first rooster crow. I had forgotten about the fact that Kauai is inundated with chickens! THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!

I saw a t-shirt featuring one of these beautiful roosters - it read "The Kauai Road Warrior" !

I was giggling as I took these photos, thinking of this DP community, and the fact that you would expect this post from me!
Yeah..... me on a gorgeous tropical garden isle, running across poultry every time I turned around! Huummm!?
Hey, at least I didn't try to dress them up!

Our 'Beautiful Parade Queen' and her loyal sidekick, Wedda!!

******************************** HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!**********************************

Only a day belated; I neglected to include these greetings in my DP for yesterday! Besides, this way I get to show you off in another of your lovely camping outfits!!

Please check out another photo of The Parade Queen, with two of her Loyal Subjects in my Contender gallery!

I would like to share an e-mail which I received re: my "NICE OUTFIT" Award DP from yesterday:

"Dear Judge - I protest. Certainly the beautiful young Mama who so cunningly accentuated her resplendent magnificience and unparalleled flair for style by donning the most stunning of aprons and then so brilliantly topped off her oh so fashionable ensemble with the most eye-catching, if not downright eye-riveting, head apparel, was truly far worthier of your highly esteemed and coveted award. The contestant you single-handedly (presumably) deemed as being the most worthy recipient of the "Nice Outfit" award was, indeed, quite "done up." But surely you yourself most assuredly must recognize that the younger candidate mounted a far higher pinnacle in the realm of frivolity - and yes - even splendor. I humbly but fervently beseech you to select a new, more objective and less myopic judge in future years (either that, or change your ways). Obviously, as this year's judge - albeit honorable (perhaps to a fault) - Your Honor either sustained cloistered prejudice or was stricken with a simple, moral delimma. Viz: a conflict of interest that, even if cast aside, would have reflected a hint, if not a healthy dash, of nepotism. I say, let the one Mama - whether she be related to Your Honor or not - who best represents that ideal of true Mama fribble, be the one to carry the title to which we all aspire. Yours truly, Dougie"

LOL!! 'Dougie' had obviously seen the photo in my Contender gallery of "NICE OUTFIT" AWARD Runner-Up!
