My sister stayed with us last night, trying to get out of the heat of Shell Beach (California).
We bribed her saying that if she came for a visit, we would turn the air-conditioner on,
seeing as she has no AC--there's no need for it at the coast--until these last several days!

This morning she and I took our coffee outside and played with her dog, Toby, and the remote control 4wheeler!!
It's funny, funny entertainment! Toby chases it; it chases her and she barks a lot! (We think she loves it!?)

At @ 3:00, we heard that it was cooling down at the coast and seeing as it was @110 in our neck of the woods, we spent the rest of the day in Shell Beach relishing the 85 degrees.

Was a fun day, Gaysie Mae!!

Graciousness in Bloom

Quite a few more of my Iris have started showing their pretty faces! Each variety is so beautiful and unique!
I was starting to prepare dinner and gazed out the kitchen window to the lovely sight of the setting sun shining on the new blossoms. Well, so much for dinner! (We ate a little later this evening!!) I was using this as a practice session for different camera settings.
I have this same shot, with the background showing.

I have just spent the last two days, from 9-5, serving on Jury Duty! For the most part, I was in a chair, sitting still, in windowless rooms, attempting to listen attentively and NOT nod off! We are released for lunch, and I've quickly made my way outside, choosing to walk to a resturant. The location is in downtown San Luis Obispo (California).

There is an additional element of beauty in S.L.O. at this time of year: the incredibly gorgeous, periwinkle colored, fragrant, blossoming Jacaranda trees! I took my camera today, in hopes of being able to get some shots of a few of these beauties, which are sprinkled all around the city!
As soon as they dismissed us this afternoon, I headed straight for the car, grabbed the camera, and found the first photogenic Jacarandas, at the Mission. I dilly-dallied my way to the freeway, looking for other Jacarandas, and ended up at a little town park.
This was a beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy the setting sun, the stunning colors and perfect weather!
A GREAT way to unwind after being cooped up in a Jury box!!

I created a new gallery to house some of these Jacaranda tree images, and a few other pretties which caught my attention this afternoon: How to unwind after Jury Duty!

!!Hey...Johnloguk!! I found out yesterday that you have a twin in this area!! He is a fellow juror! I even introduced myself to him during a break, explaining SmugMug and the Daily community, and that he has a twin in Lincoln, England!

I truly wish I could get a shot of him to show y'all ! After the SP's which John has shared with us, I am certain everyone would agree!
It's pretty uncanny!!

Please send prayers and positive this way!! I have to do the jury thing again tomorrow, then we get 4 days off!
Back again on Monday, through Wed., and maybe Thurs.! :( :(

HEY JOHNLOGUK.....and LINCOLNSTEVE !!

I found out that just 15 min. north of us we also have a Castle!!
I'm certain you'll be rightfully impressed!! (LOL !!)

My dear friend, Maria asked me to accompany she and her incredible Mom to go check this place out as a possible music venue! Has great potential for such! Many of our local wineries are used to host a variety of musical entertainment.

Once again, I refrained from taking the camera with me to 'the part-time job'! My sister brought over a few shade-loving, flowering plants for the back yard make-over; seems very fitting to post another flower from her own yard. Thanks for your help, Sis!!

This is a follow-up to my DP for yesterday. There were quite a few comments asking what kind of flower that was.
I took photos of it because of my fascination with it's unique qualities and beauty, not having a clue what it was!
So, I asked my sister and she had the answer for you!!
Yes! Karinaboese......I'm impressed; you are right! Even more specifically: The Pincushion Protea- Leucospermum cordifolium.
These plants are part of the Cape Floral Kingdom known in South Africa as "Fynbos." Over 7,700 plant species are found
in the Fynbos family.
Fynbos is an Afrikaans word meaning "fine bush" and consists mainly of members of the Protea and Erica families.

 "Rebeccahelm" might probably recognize these?!?!

Here is an informative site with a good Protea photo gallery

As my sister was telling me of their origin, I remembered that I have other photos of S. African flowers! I met a woman at a
Poultry Show that raises both exotic poultry and South African Plants. She had arranged with the hosting Poultry Club to
bring flowers to decorate the Showroom. I enjoyed photographing the gorgeous flowers as much as the beautiful poultry!
She is from the Monterey area; her site has information and photos of their 'Farm' and the many varieties of flowers which
are grown there:Fynbos Farm

This is one of the shots which I took at the Monterey Poultry Show. There are seven different kinds of flowers in this arrangement.

I added a new flower gallery: Exotic South African flora

We're having a fabulous time on our Great Rock Hunting Expedition out here in the Hwy. 395 area of the Mojave Desert!
We were going to post an indicative photo thereof, as the DP for today, however, "Florence" here derailed that idea!!
We have created a new gallery for this trip and have uploaded several photos so far (including a close-up of "Florence"!!!) Rock Hunting in Mojave
We added more of the normal rock hunting expedition type photo in:my Contender gallery

Practicing with lighting again.
These blown glass paperweights provide endless photo ops. However, I'm finding them to
be difficult and challenging (they just won't sit still!...aahhh, nevermind!); primarily because of the reflections.
I'm going to keep at it, though!

Didn't allow myself to take photos today either!
This was at the home of Carli and Chris, (this last weekend) within one of the planter areas in the backyard where the Graduation Celebration took place!
