LadyKatesPhotography > April 18 Still working on Kauai photos. My husband took this one, showing our destination in Waimea (thanks Bill! I spelled it right, this time!) Canyon, to Waipo'o Falls. In a guide book I found the description of a hike taking us to the top of those falls; which when combined, cascade over 800 ft! Yes! We went on that wonderful, sometimes strenuous, little hike of @ 3 1/2 miles round trip. So, a few hours from the time of this shot, we were sitting at the top of the highest--smaller--falls, with our feet dangling over the rocks, experiencing a BREATHTAKING view, looking towards where I'm standing here! Take note of the reddish-colored, bare promontory to the right of the top of my head, and tune in again tomorrow!! ********************************************************************************************************************************************************** Mark Twain once called Waimea Canyon the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" and he was certainly right to do so. The area was built up by lava flows, but eons of erosion have carved a 10-mile-long, 1-mile-wide, and more than 3,600 foot deep gorge.
