LadyKatesPhotography > HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! My daughter captured this endearing moment of our friend Karen and myself. This was at Tent City ('05); our historical reenactment of 1915 Atascadero, California. Yes...this turkey is her 'pet'! Yes...she walks the bird around with a collar and leash! No!!! The bird WAS NOT her Thanksgiving dinner!

Our Tent City Barber, Milo, is 3rd from the left. I did hand the camera off to someone. The lighting was very tough for this one! But, do with what you've got going on, and at least it gets the point across.

Located in the Central Coast area of California, Camp Atascadero was founded by E. G. Lewis in 1913; beginning as a community of canvas tents designed to house folks coming from all over the United States, and beyond, as they purchased their land and began to build their homes and businesses during the years of 1914-1917. "Tent City" is a unique event, which relives the 1915 Tent City era. Our slice of Tent City life features local musicians actors, artisans, and historians working to re-create our local past as authentically as possible, including tents similar to those used for business and residential purposes while permanent structures were being built. This annual event is a novel way to open a window into our local heritage; to educate others as to how this town was founded and colonized, and to gain perspective into how the early settlers lived their every day lives nearly a century before television, computers, and cell phones became commonplace. "Tent City" is created by the help of wonderful community members coming together with contributions of time, effort, energy, skill, talent, passion, enthusiasm and sponsorships of money, services and products; transforming Camp Atascadero from being pages in history books to a modern reality! ********************************************************************************************************************************* I'm creating two galleries for Tent City images, and will be adding photos on a daily basis--until completion!!: The Event Now - or - Then?
