We have been priviledged to share another visit with Alex K. Tiethof!
We bribed him with another 'Premium' RV facility, if he decided to begin his journey homeward by heading back this way from Santa Barbara, to keep himself and his home on wheels out of the L.A. area!!

My friend Maria and I took him to Morro Bay, then south to Shell Beach.
Another great time was had by all!

I'm ready for a looong nap now; more about our S'Mugger get-together tomorrow!

 InOurTime.....this one is for you!

Presenting a few from the 'Cast of Characters' in our '1915 Tent City' historical reenactment.
Yes...that is me on the far left! Our Tent City Barber, Milo, is 3rd from the left.

I did hand the camera off to someone.
The lighting was very tough for this one! But, do with what you've got going on, and at least it gets the point across.

I'll be working on 'Tent City' photos for quite a while!!

.........A Living 1915 Community.........
Located in the Central Coast area of California, Camp Atascadero was founded by E. G. Lewis in 1913; beginning as a community of canvas tents designed to house folks coming from all over the United States, and beyond, as they purchased their land and began to build their homes and businesses during the years of 1914-1917.
"Tent City" is a unique event, which relives the 1915 Tent City era. Our slice of Tent City life features local musicians actors, artisans, and historians working to re-create our local past as authentically as possible, including tents similar to those used for business and residential purposes while permanent structures were being built.
This annual event is a novel way to open a window into our local heritage; to educate others as to how this town was founded and colonized, and to gain perspective into how the early settlers lived their every day lives nearly a century before television, computers, and cell phones became commonplace.
"Tent City" is created by the help of wonderful community members coming together with contributions of time, effort, energy, skill, talent, passion, enthusiasm and sponsorships of money, services and products; transforming Camp Atascadero from being pages in history books to a modern reality!

I'm creating two galleries for Tent City images, and will be adding photos on a daily basis--until completion!!:
The Event
Now - or - Then?

Whew!! I'm back to the future!! Stepped back in time these last couple of days, to 1915 Tent City (the original days of Atascadero).
I even had the priviledge of running into MyKey in the middle of 'Town Square' on Saturday!

May I introduce Ty and Eric (the musician!) These two young men are members of the Cast of Characters for our 'historical reenactment'! And let me tell you, they ARE wonderful characters! Also, on Friday night, they did an awesome job in allowing me to take (many!) photos of them. That was fun, guys! Thanks!

It takes us a year of meetings and planning to create this historical re-enactment, with the actual event taking place on the third Saturday of October, during our town's annual 'Colony Days' celebration.
Our Hero's, Dan and Michael, head up the construction team, which begin their work on Wednesday morning, finishing the take down on Sunday evening. THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN!!
There is a group of 'Tent Exhibitor's' which actually 'camp out' in The Colony for the weekend (providing our own security!). It's one heck of a slumber party!
I work with another local Barber, the debonair and tonsorially talented Milo, to set up The Barber Tent. When I leave home on Friday morning, with my contributions of period-appropriate furnishings, tools, clothing and accessories, etc.--I don't return home until early Sunday evening! Same goes with many of the other 'exhibitors'!
From the beginning of October, the busier we all get, in tending to all the final details until the Event. We have an absolutely wonderful time throughout Saturday; we head our different directions on Sunday, taking many deep breaths, congratulating ourselves on a job very well done, and sleep very hard on Sunday night!!

Now we tend to the details of the 'after-the-event' party, when we will share food, stories and slide shows! Then, beginning the early part of March, we start all over again!!

I'm working on the 'Tent City 2008' gallery.

Check out our 1915 Barber!!
